Introduction
The FCFA Annual Gala Dinner and The Rhapsody First Responders Stair Climb is a fundraising initiative that is organised, run and supported by the FCFA and many other local businesses.
This is the first of many events we are running to raise much needed funds to support firefighters who have or are affected by Occupational Cancer, and we are looking for more help and more sponsors to create an event the best it can be.
Occupational Cancer
No one becomes a firefighter to get cancer.
Everyone thinks that fighting fires is the most dangerous thing that firefighters face.
However, that is just the beginning of the fight that firefighters must prepare for. By-products of fire can include known carcinogens and toxins which are the real hidden enemy for firefighters, that are unseen and more deadly than fighting fire and it can lead to cancer.
In 2017 the Blais University of Ottawa study examined chemical exposure occurring during emergency, on-shift fire suppression and found firefighters absorb harmful chemicals, including polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs), through their skin. Firefighters had from three to more than five times the number of by-products of PAHs in their urine after a fire compared to before the fire.
Firefighters also have a 9 percent higher risk of being diagnosed with cancer and a 14 percent higher risk of dying from cancer than the general U.S. population, according to
research by the CDC/National Institute for Occupational Health and Safety (NIOSH).
The FCFA stands alone, together to support firefighters fighting cancer. The FCFA promotes
knowledge, awareness, and advocacy for the firefighters with a cancer diagnosis. We are the only organisation to undertake this role for our brave heroes and our aim is to ensure that NO firefighter will be alone through the journey that is occupational cancer.
The Gala Dinner Hilton Hotel Gold Coast

The key behind the success of the event lies with your kind and generous sponsorship of the
event. Whether it involves the donation of cash, goods or services, every bit helps us provide a fun and exciting event to support & raise funds for Firefighter Cancer. The bigger the event, the more people who attend – the more money we can raise for a much-needed cause.
The Gala Dinner and the Rhapsody Stair Climb joins the many other fund-raising initiatives for FCFA, including our Limited-Edition T shirt Merchandise, Ride to Fire Cancer, etc. These events have become a huge annual experience.
The Gala Dinner will be held at the Hilton Hotel, Gold Coast on Saturday 23rd August 2025 at 6:30pm. The dinner is expected to wrap up around 11:30pm. With the support of our sponsors.
Gala Dinner tickets includes a 3-course meal and a drink package. Discounted accommodation rates are available to guests.
The Rhapsody
Stair Climb
The Rhapsody Stair Climb is taking place at 7:00am on the 23rd August 2025 at The Rhapsody Resort Gold Coast.
The climb is another one of our fundraising events to assist the foundation with raising funds for firefighters battling occupational cancer. The climb is open to Emergency Services Workers (QFD, QAS, QPS, SES, SLSA) and members of the General Public across Australia. There are 41 floors to climb, participants raise funds to qualify to enter. Only 100 tickets for Emergency Service Workers and 50 tickets for the General Public. We have firefighters being sponsored by local gyms to participate in the climb. We will have medal presentations, photo opportunities, entertainment, media wall (with our sponsors name/s), social media plus much more. The company assisting us with the climb also runs the stair climb at the Q1 Gold Coast, Sydney Tower. Firefighters can wear their PPC while they climb, we will have a major prize for the highest fundraiser.
Our community
Our fundraising efforts are put together by the volunteer team at FCFA. The team of volunteers work to produce an event that brings the local community together and gives everyone in attendance the opportunity to feel like they’re part of the fun. We are fortunate that we have a group of dedicated people who are involved with the day, and it is their continued passion and pride in supporting firefighters that ensures its success on the day and continued success into the future.

Why Should I Get Involved?
The Gala Dinner and Rhapsody Stair Climb allows for involvement on all levels and provides a wonderful opportunity to build your organisations profile in the community.
Sponsorship for our events provides great opportunities for mutual benefit and offers a unique platform to promote your brand, program, and services to a broad audience. By becoming a sponsor, your organisation can demonstrate your commitment to the firefighters who are just going to work to do their job while potentially getting cancer.
